1. How does the underfloor heating work? Underfloor heating relies on a system pipes laid in the floor in a continuous loop which warm water is circulated. Radiant heat is produced similar to how the sun heats us every day. The heat is concentrated where you need it, where you sit or where you stand. This large radiant surface provides heat at a uniform and comfortable temperature.
2. Why should I choose a system from Giacomini? Giacomini is the only manufacturer in the world which makes all the components required for underfloor heating. This allows us to guarantee quality and offer expertise second to none. This enviable position also allows us to offer competitive pricing along with unrivalled support.
3. Just how do I pronounce Giacomini anyway? Four syllables. Jack - Oh - Mean - Ee. Or to put it another way: Jakomeeny.
4. I have an existing building. Can I install underfloor heating? Yes you can, but there are certain provisions. It all depends if there is enough room within the floor to install the pipework and whether this is restricted. Why not give us a ring or send us an E-mail? We are here to help.
5. What about floor coverings, like carpets or tiles? Will underfloor heating be affected? No problem. Underfloor heating works happily with any covering be it carpet, wood, tile, ceramic or stone. Thick layers, like heavy carpet and thick underlay combinations with a 1.5 tog thermal rating or above, should be avoided. Other than that, you should have no concerns.
6. How about if I want underfloor heating installed in the conservatory I’m having built? The Giacomini underfloor heating system is ideal for conservatories whether the floor is solid or timber. In fact, it is considered to be a perfect heating solution for this type of construction. We will be shortly bringing out some suggested conservatory heating installation packs. In the meantime, contact us with your enquiry and we will advise you on requirements.
7. Do I need a special boiler? In general terms, any boiler will work perfectly with underfloor heating. The boiler must deliver heat at a controlled temperature, most boilers on the market perform this function. If you are considering a new boiler or feel the existing one needs updating, think about installing a condensing boiler. These modern boilers boast savings on energy and are more friendly to the environment, also they work particularly well with the Giacomini underfloor heating system.
8. I’ve heard that the underfloor heating system can also be used as a cooler. Is this true? You’ve heard right. Yes, the same system that heats a room can actually cool it on hot days. You would need to install a chiller unit alongside the boiler. Contact us for more information.
9. All right, this all sounds great. What’s the catch? Not so much as a “catch” more of a “difference” when compared to conventional radiator heating systems. Underfloor heating will take 3-4 hours to reach desired room temperature from cold and has a slow rate of cooling depending on the floor construction. In fact, the slow cooling rate can actually help as this means that, in normal operation, the system will still have retained some of its heat ready for the next heating cycle. This difference, when balanced against the enormous benefits, should not deter anyone from choosing underfloor heating.
10. I’m convinced. When can I buy the Giacomini underfloor heating system? The best thing to do is to contact us directly and we will advise you on your options.
